Tamura Coffey is a co-founder of the law firm of Coffey Bomar LLP and an experienced trial lawyer, specializing in the defense of complex medical malpractice litigation for over 17 years.  She has successfully tried cases in metropolitan and rural counties in North Carolina Superior Courts, as well as in federal courts in the Western and Middle Districts of North Carolina.  She has also handled difficult and groundbreaking issues of first impression before the North Carolina Court of Appeals, the North Carolina Supreme Court, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia.

Ms. Coffey's representative clients are Novant Health, Inc. and its many hospitals and affiliates, Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, and MAG Mutual Insurance Company.  Ms. Coffey aggressively defends health care providers in medical negligence lawsuits, and also represents those same providers in medical board inquiries and investigations, and credentialing and privileging matters.

Due to a love of teaching, Ms. Coffey also dedicates part of her practice to consulting on a broad range of risk management, claims handling, and employment issues for health care professionals, hospitals, and other businesses.  She speaks regularly at risk management conferences and lunches, and she has authored and developed many risk management and legal seminars for physicians and allied health professionals.

Ms. Coffey's career achievements are highlighted by her nomination to the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference by the Hon. William L. Osteen Sr.  She has been lauded by her peers for the last three years by nomination and inclusion into the Best Lawyers in America, North Carolina Super Lawyers Magazine, Super Lawyers Corporate Counsel Edition, and Business Leaders Magazine.  Each of these latter achievements is voted on by her peers, trial lawyers and competitors in her field.

A two-time Wake Forest graduate, Ms. Coffey graduated magna cum laude from Wake Forest University in 1990 and cum laude from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1993, where she excelled in moot court and law review endeavors to prepare for her trial practice.  Ms. Coffey spent her first year in practice as a law clerk to the Hon. William L. Osteen Sr., United States District Judge for the Middle District of North Carolina, where she learned not only her trial skills, but also her unmoving commitment to honesty and integrity in the practice of law.
